US President Donald Trump said in an interview with reporters yesterday, Sunday, that he is not a fan of Pope Leo XIV, after the leader of the Catholic Church in the world issued a call for peace on Saturday. Trump said at Joint Andrews Air Force Base in Maryland: “I am not a big fan of Pope Leo. He is a very liberal person and he is a man who does not believe in fighting crime,” accusing the Pope of “courting a country that seeks to possess a nuclear weapon.” On Saturday, the 70-year-old American Pope appealed to leaders to end wars, saying, “Enough of the worship of self and money, enough of a show of force, enough of war.” Trump repeated his statements to reporters in a post on the Truth Social website, saying: “I do not want a Pope who thinks it is acceptable for Iran to possess a nuclear weapon.” Washington and the Vatican recently denied reports of a dispute between them.
